low quality confusion

the history channels are so patronizing... pandering... condescending... stupid... aliens, prophesy, religious dogma, zombies, pawn stars, swamp people, and pickers?... the nba finals are sloppy and boring once again... golden state played a mediocre game one and won going away in overtime... golden state played a very poor game two and lost in overtime by giving the ball away a few times in the final minutes after coming back 13-4 in the final few minutes of regulation... and the cleveland coach says they are up against a very good defensive team?... golden state was standing around like spectators on the floor all game... the only chance cleveland has is if golden state goes to sleep on the court the way they did in the second game and plays the worst games they've played all season three more times out of the next five games... the refs do seem to be allowing them to play street ball and they did not do what they've done the past few years, which was give lebron special treatment, but once again, it looks scripted to prevent a sweep and make for excitement that had to be fabricated - or golden state is not nearly as good as they are touted to be... boring to watch such poor execution in a championship final... meanwhile, the science channel seems to have a different definition of the word science than i do... they should rename the science channel the freak show channel... the discovery channel is about the same... that's why tv is on in the background much more than as an actual focus of attention...

i do enjoy some of the shows listed on the right, mostly as escapism, but ultimately, the bulk of tv is over-acted low quality confusion and pandering to human fears, delusions, and egocentric stupidity... what is sadder than the fare shown on the tube is the way so many people seem to soak it up as actual knowledge or meaningful experiences or even, reality...

new snl

i watched a while, strike, strike, strike, strike, strike... no, it wasn't a bowling tournament... it was consistently striking out and unimpressive to the point of annoyance until a tv reviewer from the 1700's came along and gave it a bit of life... so far it is not something i will tune into again unless i am just channel surfing out of boredom... they've got another half hour to impress me or at least to show me why tuning in is not a waste of time... woah, it just got stupid... i mean, it was bland and trying way too hard, but the smart neighbor bit, that was just stupid... the biggest challenge to snl is the skit-commercial format... boring or stupid skits betweem very long commercial breaks and teeny-bop music doesn't hold the interest... carly rae jepsen wasn't bad, but the show needed a whole lot more... the snl i fell in love with had talent busting at the seams on so many levels, including musical guests that left you wondering how in the world a tv show got them on tv... i mean, they almost got the beatles back together, but john and paul were just too stoned to get in a cab... seriously, the rolling stones, u2, simon & garfinkel, the kinks, aerosmith, the grateful dead, queen, the band, the eagles, springsteen, jackson browne, prince, george harrison, radiohead, david bowie, nirvana, pearl jam, joe cocker, elvis costello, bob dylan, seriously, are music legends showing up today?... even if they did though, the writing is so weak... but still, sometimes i miss new york...

tv and me

this entry will sort of summarize but mostly list the tv shows currently on the dvr and the tube most as memory can recall... ncis (wiki, wikia) has become like family in spite of the theme and macho patriotic tones that perpetuate fear, hate, and war within us and all around us... dr. who (usa, youtube, wiki, wikia, wikia 2) has risen from etended family to close family mostly due to jenna (wiki)... and just like that i am tired of linking (though i like the idea of a comprehensive linage page of all the shows i want to research or remember) and thinking about which shows i dvr and watch so the fifteen minutes are up... reference, get it?... tv generation attention span... more later if this wort of motivation returns... until then, see the right side lists... or watch your tv, it's always on in the background, after all...

college football 2015

watching the college football bowl games and playoffs i am once again amazed at how some teams cheat and get away with it, especially the big money teams... watching florida play it is too obvious that they commit penalties on every play and the difference this year and last year is they are getting called on those penalties... they appear to be taught to cheat, it is so consistent... on goal line runs they will grab a facemask or on break away pass plays they will hold the receiver and their offensive line gets away with holding almost every play... the same thing happens for alabama and other big name schools, but more than anywhere else, the sec conference is where i see the ridiculous unfairness most... the ncaa may be hearing that from enough people who actually pay attention to the details of every play as this year the bias toward the big names and sec has not been as universal, though it is still evident... other than the politics and economics, the college seasons has been interesting and when i forget the violence, fun to watch... amazing how the mind can compartmentalize to enjoy life...

intelligent life

when seth mcfarlane and neil degrasse tyson got together with ann druyan and brannon braga to continue the cosmos stories of carl sagan in their own new cosmos, brilliant minds produced an audio visual presentation that offered enlightenment to other intelligent beings... i wonder how many people have seen either series... i wonder how many people truly understand... space and time lose meaning for most people beyond a certain limit in their minds, a limit to their imagination and/or perception that sadly, threatens the survival of the species... will the alternative someday then be to eliminate those who refuse to accept the education offered or will we find a way to restrict their capacity for destruction... if we could see millions of years into the future, we might know the answer... thing is, we might need the answer much sooner than we are ready...

our lifetimes are so brief when compared the the changes in the universe (or on the earth or stars, for that matter) we can be as insignificant as the smallest bacteria in our bodies and yet, those bacteria could destroy us and ultimately, we could destroy the planet or even the universe... our bodies create ways to fight and stop and kill the bacteria, so would it be no surprise if the planet or universe found ways to kill us if we become too big a threat... when bacteria become too strong, produce too much destructive energy, the body reacts... can a species produce enough destructive energy to get the planet (or universe) to react?...

never know what might slip into the mind from background tv, aye?...

classical distraction

in hundreds of years, or more, students of classical literature will be analyzing (and watching and reading) i dream of jeanne and bewitched and other cultural creativities of the twentieth century and seriously, with lines like it's the most comfortable drawer i ever slept in and ..., how can it have not become a literary classic... or is that a cult classic... hey, ever heard of a guy named shakespeare?... ovid?... god?... the world was once flat, you know?... nobody understands me, really, but we can fake it if you are adorably wanting to and at least passable for public display according to my quite narrow libido or have an irresistible personality without too many stupid suicidal tendencies... hey, at least i'm not this guy who doesn't joke about insulting everyone and pushing the world away... you really don't this (e)thereal blog is all about the actual daily happenings in the real world physical life, do you?... naturally there is a great deal of distraction during the long nights spent alone at home saving pennies for retirement, you know?...

another science geek (with a twist?)

yes, and while sex shows can be quite amusing when there isn't too much cuteness, judgment, or pretentious casualness, it's still and doctor carin bondar panders so typically to the expected social morees that the initial attraction kind of wore off after a few videos... i still laugh and like her a lot, as i like laci, who tries to help people understand their sexuality (while carin is exploiting animal sex with a whole lot more stereotypical teasing and titillation... she puts on a little too forced casualness and mock seriousness for my tastes... gotta pander to the human ego to sell i suppose... she does do it well though... of course i am being judgmental and probably reading way too much into a few videos, but since i am doing that i'll suggest that she is displacing her own personal sexuality by always having some animal sex to talk about when she is stimulated cuz she is so very shy down deep (and a product of our prudish culture in the west using words like dirty, perverted, and disgusting right on cue... randomly, she seems to prefer smaller penises...

ok, so maybe a little too much cuteness and standard judgment (oh for the shock value of an original open mind, aye?), but a sexy little body for a mom of four (i know, i'm terrible by standard human judgments... what's that about shock value?)...

meanwhile, the website organizer uses the titillation to promote some very good environmental and animal rights causes, so it's not all meaningless pandering... she can be serious too... so hopefully she enjoys being added to my imaginary friends with whom i'd like to gather and converse and play and learn and share serious fin...

science channel depression

so the king crabs are invading the eastern north atlantic and crab lovers have mixed feeling about that because crab lovers who love crabs for their taste are thrilled because the price of king crabs ought to come down but crab lovers who love crabs because they love crabs as in nature lovers as in vegans and vegetarians are sad because they don't want to kill crabs or have crabs killed... being kind of in the middle, a former vegan who loves the taste of crabs, i hope the flood of crabs brings the price of crabs down in the western atlantic (fill the big boats and ship 'em over, aye mate?) and the sensitive environmentalist in me sees things from both sides (it is the science and eco-balance that brought me back to being an omnivore, the taste buds cheered but did not drive that bus) and realizes that over-population of any animal (four hundred thousand larvae in a single birth is a bit amazingly over-doing it), including humans, is destructive to all life on the planet... so fill the big boats is the ultimate balance from my perspective...

i mean, do you know about the lionfish? (hundreds of thousands of eggs each time, over 2 millions eggs a year from each female)... some dumb human with a home fish tank may have destroyed the eco-system of the south western atlantic... fish lovers, yeah... anyway, the show doesn't have it's own website yet, but it's a fairly raw balance of pro and con environmentalism as it focuses on how human intervention allows other predators to dominate huge areas of the world... ultimately, if you watch enough of the science channel, it is quite easy to become depressed... humans are so carelessly self-destructive almost all the time (and deliberately self destructive the rest of the time)...

sigh, it's enough to drive a rational being to depression...

wanna be greatness

i thought about putting it in the bored and the caring or who cares but those are too serious for it... then i thought about putting it in random pop news, but that is mostly video... and then i thought about putting it in for no apparent reason but i have more respect for that blog than to put it there... then i thought about putting it where it belongs, in the daily poop, but that too is not a place for such babbling as this... and it's not really a meaningless complaint cuz as meaningless as it may be, it's not really a complaint, at least not this time... it could be in nobody likes just the tip, but it's not irreverent enough... so it ended up in background tv, and here it is:

lol... a big win for the cavs a big win for the internet, so says espn... ultimately, it's a big win for cleveland, akron, ohio, and the midwest... when you consider the bigger picture, it's a pathetic drama that only a small fraction of the human race takes seriously, at least for the moment... he's grown, for sure... he's got great advisers and writers now, that's for sure... is he as really as big and important and and the man his ego wants him to be?... maybe... that depends on his ego... a few years ago his ego wanted him to be god, a mocking god at that... he settled for king, which is way short of true greatness because greatness does not ned to be crowned, it just is... will he rise to the level of greatness in his life, that will depend on whether he can let go of his ego-battle with michael and rise above the egocentric immaturity that has him whining and bitching to referees while playing a game and stepping into the world spotlight as a leader on issues that matter... mohammed ali, there is an athlete using his sports spotlight for greatness... martin luther king, there is greatness... ghandhi... and a million people nobody's ever heard of... it takes laying your freedom on the line, your life on the line, not just risking losing a game or winning a game to be great in this world... championships are great, but greatness?... greatness is a whole lot more...

so is the sacrifice of returning to his home town a step toward greatness, perhaps, if he becomes a leader in his home town, changing lives with humility and generosity and a passion for doing good for people, not for the spotlight... so far, he's 98% hype and 2% greatness... we shall see what he does away from the game over the next few years and beyond...

and yet, as tired as i am of the hype, i still write this because he still has the potential to turn his life around and realize that greatness is not whining or grandstanding or pouting or arrogantly mocking others, greatness is leading by giving...

i still switched channels because i'd rather watch anything other than the hype... family guy, even...

extra crap

there are many shows that are representative of the shameless extravagance of the current american culture (human nature?), but extra may take the cake (and eat it too)... wait, another cake analogy may be just around the corner... yes, marie antoinette, the epitome of let them eat cake" is the obscene pleasure extra portrays in pretentious drama and gleeful bliss (ignorance) as that ridiculous enigma of fame and fortune summed up in the ultimate single word oxymoron (yes, it takes the mind of god to understand it all), celebrity, all dressed up and nowhere to go...

the height of eye candy and over-stating the obvious, the only thing missing is the hype that extra is must see tv, but wait, trademarks, copyrights, and all that jazz keeps is all tied up in court paying lawyers to continue giving us reasons to believe our lives are ever so important, i mean, we must be important, just look at all the money they are spending...

cynical much?... ah, it's beyond all that and commercials too, it's unreal passing as the reality that everybody is told they want so often that they believe it and must have it and long for it and sell their soul, if they could, just for a taste of the cake (what, you thought the cake was all gone?)...

hey, eye candy is fun, but waiting a half hour for craig ferguson to come on and get real (wink wink) can get annoying, ya know? (what's that, who's sleeping on the job?)... lol lam lal laa...
